The 2026 N90 Hilux Build Series Begins

We've started building the 2026 N90 Toyota Hilux into the lightest, most capable overlanding setup we can, without blowing through the available payload.

This Hilux has a maximum payload of 965 kg. Our target is to keep every accessory and modification under 400 kg combined, leaving around 565 kg for passengers, camping gear, water, food, and everything else needed for a proper trip.

Throughout the series, we're weighing every accessory and tracking the running total episode by episode, so you can see exactly how each upgrade affects the build.

Episode 1: MK4 Canopy and Cantilever Roof Rack

In Episode 1, we kick off the build with two major additions: our MK4 Canopy and Cantilever Roof Rack.

These form the foundation of the setup, giving the Hilux secure storage, practical load-carrying capability, and a strong base for the rest of the build, all while keeping weight under control.

Episode 2: Largest Wheels and Tyres for the 2026 N90 Toyota Hilux (No Lift)

In Episode 2, we answer the question that has come up a lot: what's the largest wheel and tyre combination that fits the N90 completely stock, no lift?

We brought in Dan from PRM Automotive. The answer: a Maxxis Razr AT811 on a ROH Lotus 17x9 +12 wheel. Dropping to a 17-inch rim gives more sidewall for airing down off-road, the +12 offset keeps everything inside the guard without needing flares, and the Flow Forged construction keeps weight down without sacrificing the 1,500 kg load rating.

Can you fit 33-inch tyres stock? No. The AT811 is as large as you can go before you start scrubbing the inner guard under articulation. 33s need a lift, and that's coming.

Episode 3: Rooftop Tent, Awning and Electrical Setup

In Episode 3, we turn the build into a proper touring setup, fitting a rooftop tent, 270° awning and complete electrical system, then putting everything back on the scales.

Up top, we fit a BushBuck 1.9m rooftop tent and Rhino-Rack 270° awning to the Cantilever Roof Rack using our 1300mm MK4 Crossbars, allowing enough clearance for both to work together while keeping full access through the canopy doors.

Inside the canopy, we fit out the Mule-Tek Front Wall Panel with a 100Ah slimline lithium battery, 1600W inverter and electrical system, ready to power the fridge, cooking gear and charging setup.

That takes the build from 138 kg to 292 kg, leaving 108 kg remaining from the 400 kg accessory weight budget.
