“…recovery means getting outdoors with the family, hunting, or heading off-grid to escape the pressure.”
Braden Currie has built his career by pushing the limits of endurance sport, but his real strength lies in knowing how to stay grounded. He’s crossed more than 90 start lines, stood on 72 podiums, and claimed over 50 victories, including IRONMAN New Zealand, Ironman Asia-Pacific Championships, and multiple top-10 finishes at Kona. But the medals only tell half the story. To perform at the top, Braden has learned that time with family, recovery, and reconnecting with the outdoors are just as important as the hours of training.

Shaped by Challenge
Braden’s drive was forged on a sheep farm near Methven New Zealand, with the Southern Alps as his backyard. His childhood was full of freedom and adventure.
“Life on the farm meant Mum and Dad were always working, so we learned to rely on ourselves pretty early.” he recalls.
“Most days we were outside chopping trees, setting up dirt bike jumps, and just finding new ways to explore. Adventure wasn’t something we planned, it was just how we grew up.”
That early foundation shaped him into an athlete who finds comfort in the outdoors. From small-town multisport to the world’s biggest stages, his pursuit has always been the same: challenge, adventure, and connection to nature.

Grounded by Family
The professional circuit pushed him to extremes. At one point, while preparing for Kona in 2024, Braden spent just 60 days at home the entire year. “That’s a lot of time away from my wife and kids,” he admits.
That experience reinforced for Braden that elite performance isn’t just about training harder, it’s about knowing when to step back.
“If you’re not finding time to switch off, you’ll burn out real quick. Training has to be matched with downtime and recovery to really count. For me, recovery means getting outdoors with the family, hunting, or heading off-grid to escape the pressure.”
Those outdoor family adventures aren’t a break from his world, they’re foundational in keeping him sharp - mentally and physically. Staying grounded with his kids and wife, in the landscapes he grew up with, is what fuels his drive at the highest level.

Gear That Keeps Up
To make the most of those precious windows of downtime, everything has to perform. Braden’s Utemaster canopy has become part of that system, a mission-ready setup that supports both sides of his life - so he can get stuff done and enjoy life’s adventures.
In Braden’s universe, anything that can save time has immense value. When every second counts, your gear has to be tough, reliable and optimised for the purpose it’s used for. No matter the industry, no matter the sport, when you’re operating at peak performance, your gear has to be ready when you are.
“With the canopy, I can have the race gear in one day, then flip it for family gear the next. Everything has its place, it’s locked down, and I know it’s secure. It saves me time and energy, which means more time actually doing the stuff I want to do.”
For Braden, gear represents reliability, efficiency, and trust. He can load bikes for a training session one day and pack camping gear for a weekend mission the next, with a design tailored to his lifestyle. It’s one less thing to worry about and one more way to protect the moments that matter most.
“It’s just pretty much the most functional, hardwearing, epic but still drivable setup you could get.”

The Moments That Matter
Braden Currie’s story shows how a world-class athlete can stay grounded, keeping his roots, family, and the outdoors at the centre of a life lived at full tilt. By maximising downtime and reconnecting with what matters most, he maintains peak performance while staying connected to the people and places that keep him sharp.
By investing in gear that adapts to both performance and play, he’s not just chasing adventure, he’s protecting the moments that matter most.
