2026 Toyota Hilux Overland Build: Episode 1
Posted on 07 August 2026 by Utemaster
We’ve started building the 2026 N90 Toyota Hilux into the lightest, most capable overlanding setup we can, without blowing through the available payload.
This Hilux has a maximum payload of 965 kg. Our target is to keep every accessory and modification under 400 kg combined, leaving around 565 kg for passengers, camping gear, water, food, and everything else needed for a proper trip.
Throughout the series, we’re weighing every accessory and tracking the running total episode by episode, so you can see exactly how each upgrade affects the build.

Episode 1: MK4 Canopy and Cantilever Roof Rack
In Episode 1, we kick off the build with two major additions: our MK4 Canopy and Cantilever Roof Rack.
These form the foundation of the setup, giving the Hilux secure storage, practical load-carrying capability, and a strong base for the rest of the build, all while keeping weight under control.
